Half of her needed to pul Stefan to her, kiss him until that wrecked appearance all over left. Be that as it may, Damon was watching her, his own face mysterious, and contacting both of them felt †¦ wrong. â€Å"I should be without anyone else for a while,† she let them know. At some other time, she knew, them two would have questioned the possibility of her strolling the grounds alone. They would have contended, fol owed her in the event that she wouldn’t stroll with them †anything to keep her securely under their assurance. Presently, however, Stefan cleared out to let her out of the stall, his head bowed. Damon sat very stil and watched her go, his eyes hooded. How to Sleep Sitting Up

How to Sleep Sitting Up When you have less stuff your life changes. One of the nicest changes is the option to travel. Not every minimalist is a dedicated world travelerâ€"we dont all change countries every few months or walk to Brazil. But theres a reason travel and minimalism get mentioned in the same breath. Whether youre a jetsetter or just take a once a year vacation, its simpler with less stuff weighing you down (at home, in your luggage, or on the credit card bill). But that doesnt mean travel is always easy. I like to do whatever I can to lower the barriers. So when my sister Zangmo came to visit, I had some questions for her. Zangmo is a Buddhist nun. She just finished a lengthy retreat in a Tibetan monastery in New York. We had a lot of catching up to do but after seeing her room at the monastery I particularly wanted to know about her bed. She told me before entering retreat that Tibetan monks sleep sitting up. They even have a special box to sleep in at night. This lets them fall asleep facing their shrines and contributes to good meditation posture. To me, it also sounded like torture. Though she makes it look good. Better Living Through Sleepytime Zangmo told a different story. She told me that she feels healthier sleeping upright. She never gets a sore back or stiff neck, she sleeps soundly and wakes up feeling rested and alert every morning (this depsite getting just 5 hours of sleep a night with the busy monastery schedule). I could see the effect it had on her: she was able to sleep anywhere and she was full of energy. I thought this could be useful. Im an adventurer, setting out on a spiritual pilgrimage across two continents. Anything that makes me more portable is good. Some of the benefits of upright sleeping include: Its good for your back No more taking special pillows everywhere you go You dont need a sleeping bagâ€"one blanket will keep you warm Its impossible to snore Youre more aware of your surroundings and can wake up easily I immediately saw the applications for my upcoming journey. I can carry less gear, and if I wake up to the sound of approaching footsteps I can be on my feet in a second. In the Colombian jungle thats not a bad deal. Of course most travelers arent so extreme. But where upright sleeping really shines is on a bus or in a friends living room. Once you become proficient you can sleep truly anywhere, never worrying about what the mattress will be like. Bad hotel beds, air mattresses, futonsâ€"these will be things of the past. I asked Zangmo to teach me how to do it right, then tried it out for myself. How to Sleep Upright What Zangmo taught me was a series of tips to make the transition easy. It took her about three months to make the adjustment, but learning from her mistakes I was able to make it in four weeks. By the first week I could sleep an hour or two at a time comfortably, and within two weeks I had slept five straight hours upright (moving to a bed for the rest of the night). Prior to this my only experience with sleeping upright was in vehicles or at airports. It always led to horrible stiffness and pain. The reason is bad posture. If you can control your posture you can sleep upright with none of the pain, and thats what most of these steps are aimed at. 1. The Right Surface Set a board or other surface at about a 70 ° angle. Ultimately you can sleep against anything, even a vertical surface with no troubles. To start off though youll want gravity helping you, and that means a slightly sloped surface behind you. I put a piece of particle board against my bedroom wall at a 70 ° angle. To avoid scratching the wall you can throw a towel over the top. 2. Padding Everybody likes pillows. If youre used to sleeping on a bed youre going to want some kind of padding or youll go nuts. At the beginning, two pillows should work: one to sit on and one to cushion your back. After about two weeks I stopped using the pillows and now lean directly on the board, with no comfort issues. 3. Back Support Lower back support is how you make upright sleeping comfortable. The single most important part of upright sleeping is lower back support. If you support your lower back it will reinforce your torsos natural curve, minimizing soreness. At the same time it will slope your body so that your head is leaning back onto the surface behind you. This makes it easier to fall asleep and avoid neck pain. If you under-do your lower back support or sleep leaning forward, youll wake up with the same kind of soreness you get from hours in front of a computer. Thats called slumping and its not your friend. Luckily its easily fixed. A rolled up towel or small pillow behind the lower back gets you the shape you need. 4. Neck Support A seat cushion has a nice shape to support the neck without shoving the head forward. Just like with padding, in time you wont need neck support at all. But it makes the transition easier for beginners. Ideally youll have something that supports your neck but is thinner behind your head. Err on the thin side. If you use a pillow that pushes your head forward youll find yourself with significant neck painâ€"its better to relax the neck and head and let them fall naturally back against the board or wall. If you have a small enough pillow you can support the neck without anything behind the head at all. 5. Something Extra If you find that you slump over in your sleep, you have options. In theory you now have basic good posture: your lower back is supported, you arent leaning forward, and your head falls back naturally. But at the start your body might not want to stay that wayâ€"youll wake up lolling to one side, or slouched over. This will stop happening as your body gets used to the posture, but you can intervene if its frustrating. The easiest way is just to tie a scarf around your board and use it like a seatbelt for your head. This way you cant lean forward or fall to the side. Buddhists make such good models. Thanks Zangmo! Putting it to Use Most people assume that lying down is the natural way for humans to sleep, but after experiencing upright sleeping Im not so sure. I think most people just decide that however they were raised is the natural way, and anything that looks really different must be uncomfortable. But just like switching from sleeping on your side to sleeping on your back, after a short period of adjustment it becomes normal. When I sleep upright I have a very light, but amazingly refreshing sleep. I remember my dreams better, I wake up more easily if something is going on around me, and yet I dont feel groggy or disrupted. I can jump right up without that usual feeling of disorientation that comes after sleep, which has led to not hitting the coffee so hard. Even though its a lighter sleep somehow its very satisfying. Im curious to see if any other minimalists take the challenge and try this out. Is it something you could use when traveling? Or maybe even at home? If you try it out, share your experience. How hard is the adjustment period, and do you end up with the same refreshing sleep that I did? Drew Jacob is an adventurer and philosopher. Rethinking Of Stereotypes - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 814 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2019/04/12 Category Society Essay Level High school Topics: Stereotypes Essay Did you like this example? Although it has become a clich in recent years Winston Churchills famous quote, History is written by the victors. Is very prevalent in the way that indigenous peoples in North America have been portrayed in films, text books, non-fiction novels, and other forms of media. While it would be financial and political suicide to create a film similar to a John Wayne western classic where an overly macho, gun-slinging hero wages war against the local indigenous tribe to rectify an arbitrary wrong would, unfortunately reaffirm the view that some Americans have towards Native Americans. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Rethinking Of Stereotypes" essay for you Create order In simpler terms indigenous peoples have been depicted as faceless, generic enemies to the American way of life. In the introduction to First Peoples Colin Calloway discusses in detail the master narrative which simply put is the exclusion of some or all perspectives on an event in history. While the intent is not necessarily negative, the lasting effects of omitting pieces of history can still be seen today in the way that indigenous peoples are viewed. Calloway argues that a driving factor in the lack of consideration for indigenous perspectives is that the tragic history of Native Americans does not fit the uplifting and proud tone of most history books (Calloway, p. 3). To clarify, the Euro-centric American narrative emphasizes discovery and rugged individualism and to go into detail describing how for every triumph of an American explorer leads to a tragedy for Indigenous Peoples takes away from the message that many textbook authors are trying to convey. An excellent example of the omission of Native American perspective leading to a harmful belief is the story or Rogers Raid which was discussed in class. Due to hubris or stupidity following his attack on a French missionary and Abenaki village Robert Rogers claimed to have wiped out the village killing 200 Abenaki. Rogers belief was completely wrong and he killed closer to twenty people. Although the French were quick to claim that only twenty had been killed Rogers account of events was widely believed. The harm in this being that the Abenaki village was small and that by claiming that he and his rangers had killed 200 people Rogers much alive with members of the tribe living mostly in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and New Brunswick. However, this example shows how easily Indigenous Peoples can be written off and assumed have died off. In addition to the exclusion of their perspectives Indigenous People also suffer from a number of stereotypes that contribute to the fallacy that they have disappeared and are no longer part todays society. Thanks in part to outdated films and other forms of media Native Americans are often viewed as uncivilized and primitive compared to European settlers. This stereotype makes it hard for an individual to picture Indigenous People as being a part of todays society. Many of the stereotypes that one encounters on a day to day basis, although misinformed and ignorant, stem from relatively recent facets of life. For example, all members of fraternities are often considered to be binge drinkers with little regard towards any aspect of life that does not immediately impact them. Like all stereotypes this view of fraternity members does not tell the whole story, however it affirms that the group exists in the modern world. Stereotypes regarding Indigenous Peoples have not evolved to modern day. As a result when someone intends to insult Native Americans with a stereotype they are left using old, outdated stereotypes and in the process are not indirectly affirming that the group they are insulting is still alive. While images and films where indigenous people are portrayed as savage pre-humans have fallen out of favor and generally would not be accepted by the public, the damage caused by old textbooks and out dated views have taken their toll. Some Native Americans are making an effort to dispel the notion that Indigenous People are not part of society today. One example of this the musical band Red Bone. The first stereotype that they indirectly break is that Native Americans are not successful in the United States. Their hit song Come and Get Your Love has found a resurgence in popularity thanks largely to it being featured heavily in the sound track of Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy. The second stereotype Red Bone challenges is that all Indigenous music consists of sad folk music and traditional songs. By creating a hit rock song Red Bone proves that Native American culture can and does focus on positive aspects of life and fits into modern society. This of course is just a small glimpse into the revisionist history that has plagued history books for decades. Unfortunately, many more examples of this type of thinking is presented or forced upon the public in todays political and consumeristic world, attempting to mold our opinions and habits to benefit someones agenda while undermining a peoples civil rights.

Essay on The Theme of Knowledge in Gilgamesh and Genesis

Ancient world literature and early civilization stories are mostly centered on human’s relationship with higher beings. Ancient civilizations were extremely religious, holding the belief that their very lives were in the hands of their almighty god or goddess. This holds true for both the people of biblical times as well as those of the epic era. However, their stories have some differences according to cultural variation but the main structure, ideas, and themes are generally found correlative. In the Book of Genesis, the idea of knowledge emerges throughout punishment. This theme is most apparent when Adam and Eve deceive God by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The Old Testament states, The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining knowledge (Genesis 3:6). Promptly Adam and Eve gain knowledge and realize their nakedness as punishment from God. Likewise in Gilgamesh, Enkidu, was a wild man before he was seduced by a harlot from Uruk. After his encounter with harlot he notices his abilities have been greatly suppressed. Enkidu was grown weak, the narrator tells us, for wisdom was in him, and the thoughts of a man were in his heart. The woman says to him, You are wise, Enkidu, and now you have become like a god. Why do you want to run wild with the beasts in the hills? She tells him about strong-walled Uruk and the blessed temple of Ishtar and of Anu, of love and of heaven, and about Gilgamesh himself. The primary target customers of Dominos include young boys and girls, government service holders, businesspersons, private service holders and so many. Among the 230 cities of India, most of the target customers of this organization belong from Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata locations. Yeh Hai Rishton Ka Time is the key tagline of Dominos with the help of which the business experts have drawn the attention of customers of various geographical boundaries. Mission and Vision of Dominos India: The primary vision of Dominos India has focused on exceptional people on a mission to be the best pizza delivery company in the world!" After launching their entire process of business in the various geographical areas of India, the service providers have aimed to deliver superior quality of products by maintaining its delicious tastes in affordable price range (Adeoye Elegunde, 2012). People from average level of income can easily purchase the products and services of Dominos. India being a developed country is constituted with the inhabitants of average income level. Therefore, the business experts have decided to implement moderate cost strategy with the help of which low cost customers can be attracted for purchasing the products and services of Dominos. Location of the Competitors: As per the current scenario, Dominos has become a major threat for most of the contemporaries. MacDonald, KFC, Pizza Hut, Telepizza, The Little Caesars are the major competitors of the Dominos. The business strategy of Pizza Hut has become a major threat for Dominos as Pizza hut has drawn the attention of large number of Indian customers by providing superior quality of products and services. The entire process of business of Pizza Hut has been widely spread in most of the cities of India including Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata, Abohar, Agra, Ahmedabad. As a result, Dominos has faced a major competitive market for maintaining organizational image and reputation (Bosdriesz et al. 2012). In addition, the service procedure of Dominos was very effective based on which the customers could enjoy the essence of their food sitting at the drawing room. In a word, the home delivery process of Dominos is very much fast and systematic. Customers do not have to wait for a long time in order to receive the service process of Dominos. However, recently it has been observed that Pizza Hut has also changed their market policy in order to give a major threat for Dominos. The service providers have also launched the home delivery process for providing an effective service to the customers (Budhwar Debrah, 2013). As a result, the customers have received ample options for choosing their products from different food centers. Therefore, the marketing managers of Dominos have decided to implement innovative business strategies and policies for maintaining organizational image and reputation so that customers do not have to think twice for using the products of dominos. Production cost and sales As per the business scenario, the economy of scale is highly dependent on the size, output or scale of operation, which is based on the cost per unit. Economy scale varies from organization to organization (Cant Wiid, 2013). Most of the large producers tend to fix their production while maintaining a short-term business. On the other hand, variables in the production cost are highly dependent on the long-term business. This particular part has focused to highlight the production cost and scale strategy of Dominos. Fixed: A large number of branches of Dominos are situated in different places of India. The business experts have to invest a fix amount of money behind some of the major equipments (Daniel, Cieslewicz Pourjalali, 2012). The equipments include house rent, bill of electricity, cost of physical resources and so many. Therefore, the company has to bear these costs effectively while running the entire process of business. This particular short-term cost can never be avoided even if the companys revenue growth becomes decreased for this particular year. In this kind of situation, the cost remains fixed (Dckel Ligthelm, 2015). In addition, it has also been observed that the production cost has been fixed in terms of short-term business process. The production manager has to pay the same cost to the raw material suppliers even rate of product selling decreases for that particular year. Therefore, it can never be denied that company like Dominos should concentrate on the quality and reliability o f their products so that the chances of revenue loss can be reduced (Franceschini, Galetto Turina, 2013). At the same time, it cannot also be denied that the revenue growth of Dominos in the current market scenario is high. As per the revenue growth of 2015, this particular company has received 20.819 billion per year that has created a high market demand. Variables: Production cost is variable in terms of long-term business. The production cost of Dominos varies on three major factors. With the long-term business process, the cost of raw material becomes flexible time to time (Haidar, 2012). With the upgrading progress of raw material cost, the business experts of Dominos have to increase their operation cost as well. As a result, it has a major effect on the business profit and revenue growth (Hoffman Bansal, 2012). If the operation cost becomes high, the company has to compromise with the profit making level as well. Therefore, the business experts of Dominos always intend to maintain a good relation with the distributors so that the organization can receive a good raw material from the suppliers. Depending on the market demand, the product cost varies. For an example, India is currently possessed with high range of market demand where a large number of customers are craving for purchasing the products of dominos. In this kind of situation, the business experts have decided to fix the price range of Dominos in moderate level so that both the low cost customers as well as Premium customers can equally get attracted towards dominos product (Hutchison Sushko, 2013). On the other hand, if the market demand would be low, the business experts could have used another business strategy to draw the attention of customers. Therefore, the product cost is highly dependent on the current market demand. On the other hand, product cost varies with the rapid progress of labor cost as well. With the dynamic progress of business, the needs and demands of the labors are changing gradually. Dominos is not exceptional to that. If the power of labor becomes very high, the company has to increase the labor cost (Kazlauskien? Christauskas, 2015). In India, the scenario is completely different. As per the current scenario, the power of the labor is low as a large number of people have to through the situation of unemployment level. However, due to the low labor cost, the business experts of dominos India can maintain an affordable price range to the products (Kolapo Adaramola, 2012). With the help of this affordable price range, people from different geographical boundaries are successfully able use products and services of Dominos. Therefore, product cost and scale is highly dependent on the market demand, operation cost, supply chain cost, raw material cost and labor cost of the particular company. Dominos is not exceptional to those particular situations. Macro business environment Overall stability of the political system India: Liddle (2014) opined that it is undeniable that India is not very much stable in their governmental growth due to the instable progress of politics. Due to the unpredictability of foreign investment in India and tax issues most of the business organizations have to face innumerable challenges for running their entire process of business successfully. Most of the foreign direct investors tend to show their intense dissatisfaction for investing money in Indian companies. On the other hand, Sannajust (2014) has differed the point of view of previous eminent scholar. As per the point of current author, the current market scenario of India has been changed drastically. The tax issues and government trade regulations have become very much flexible right now with the help of which the foreign businesspersons of different business organizations have showed their interest for launching their business in India. Dominos has followed the same (Sakarya et al. 2012). This particular business organ ization has expanded their process in various cities of India. This particular country being still developing is possessed with large number of unemployment status. As a result, people from different geographical boundaries with high skill and competency level tend to apply for the different posts. Srinivasanc et al. (2013) stated that the political status of India is not very much influential. The government never tends to show their interest for imposing any decision on the employees. Therefore, the business experts have immense opportunities for recruiting the employees as per their level of skills and competencies. As a result, people having skills and efficiency get the scope to become the part of business organization. While recruiting the employees of Dominos, the human resource managers never intend to focus on the cultural and religious backgrounds. Skills and competencies becomes the first priority for this particular organization. The general level of inflation, unemployment, average interest rate of the countries As per the current market scenario, the inflation level of Dominos is low. The marketing managers tend to follow low cost strategy with the help of which customers from average income level can purchase the products and services of Dominos. At the same time, it is also undeniable that Dominos is possessed with a high range of revenue growth. Therefore, the production managers are able to use the advancement of technology while manufacturing products and services. Consequently, sufficient number of products can be manufactured in limited time. As a result, the service providers are successfully able to maintain a balance between customers supply and demand. On the other hand, in comparison to the current competitive market, the demand of Pizza Hut is also very high. Therefore, the customers get ample options to choose their products and services. The customers never tend to show their interest for purchasing products and services in high cost. India is possessed with excessive unemployment status. As per the current market scenario, the number of skillful candidates in India is high in range in comparison to the number of business organizations. Therefore, Dominos would not have to invest a large amount of money in labor cost due to the excessive rate of unemployment status. In this kind of situation, people from different geographical boundaries tend to apply for the different organizational posts. After expanding their entire process of business in various geographical areas of India, the human resource managers have immense opportunities to hire competent employees for their organization in affordable cost (Trequattrini, Russo Lombardi, 2012). Therefore, the business experts are successfully able to effective business strategy and policy for the business growth. On the other hand, as per the organizational business strategy, the managers of Dominos India tend to follow participative leadership style at the workplace wi th the help of which the organization is able to take collective decision. Dominant has already occupied a recognizable place in the global market. Therefore, this particular organization has already expanded their widespread wings all over the World. The business experts do not have to maintain export system for raising the economic growth of Dominos. Rather, Dominos India likes to import the raw material from foreign such as breads, equipments, finance and human resource in order to reduce the product cost for the low cost consumers. Overview of the overall macro-economic condition of Dominos As per the Macro-economic condition of Dominos of India, it can be evaluated that this particular food center has immense opportunity for expanding their entire process of business in multinational countries (Trequattrini, Russo Lombardi, 2012). In addition, this particular business organization is very much stable in India due to the stability of current political conditions. At the same time, this particular country has become very much advanced in technology. Therefore, people from different remote areas can use the products and services of Dominos sitting at their home. As a result, the revenue growth of the Dominos will be raised expectedly. The business experts would be able to involve more employees within the process of business for maintaining a balance between customers supply and demand. References Adeoye, A. O., Elegunde, A. F. How To Change A Babys Diaper Essays - Babycare, Infancy, Diapers

How to Change a Baby's Diaper As a teenager who might baby-sit or even as an adult, there will come a time when you'll have to change a baby's diaper. If you follow some basic directions, you should be able to safely change the baby's diaper and make the baby a whole lot happier. First, you will need to gather a few items before you change the baby's diaper. You will need a diaper, baby powder, baby wipes, a safe spot to lay the baby down, a change of clothes in case the baby's diaper leaks through on to his/her clothes, and of course, you need a baby. Keep in mind it's important to get all items required before you begin, because under no circumstances should you leave the baby unattended. Leaving the baby unattended could cause harm to the baby if he/she were to roll off the table, couch, or any other location you choose to change their diaper. Second, you need to determine if the baby needs his/her diaper changed. To do this is simple. You would look at the baby's diaper to see if it is wet. If the diaper is wet, it will have a swollen look to it. If you can't tell by just looking at the outside, peel the tape, located on the front of the diaper back, pull the diaper down, and take a look inside. If the diaper is wet, it will have a yellowish discoloration on the inside. Also, if the baby has an awful odor about him/her it's safe to assume he/she needs a diaper change. If you're not sure you can look and see if he/she left you any surprises. Third, after determining if the baby needs his/her diaper changed, and we'll assume he/she does, double check to make sure you have everything required before getting started. If you're sure you have all the items required, you're ready to get started. Lay the baby down on a changing table, floor, couch, or whatever is readily available at the time. Keep in mind the place you choose should be a safe one. After laying the baby down undress his/her bottom half, and then undo the two sticky tabs, one on each side of the diaper. Next, you would gently lift the baby's bottom up by carefully holding their ankles and lifting. While the baby's bottom is lifted pull out the soiled diaper and set it aside until you can dispose of it. Then, while you've still got the baby's bottom lifted wipe it with a baby wipe until clean. It may take a few of the wipes depending on how big a mess there was. After you've cleaned the baby's bottom set him/her back down and make sure the front area is also clea n. When finished cleaning, grab the clean diaper and sprinkle some baby powder in it. Then, again gently lifting the baby's bottom, slide the diaper underneath the baby's bottom, and then gently set the baby down on it. Next, pull the front of the diaper up in between the baby's legs and go to each side undoing the sticky tab and sticking it to the front to secure the diaper. Finally, once that is completed you would get the baby dressed again put the baby in a playpen, crib, or any other safe place you choose. Next go back to changing area and then clean up the mess and dispose of the soiled diaper and wipes. Now that you are completely finished you have changed a baby's diaper and made the baby very happy. Bibliography This is a process essay I wrote for my English 115 class. This paper received an A for a grade.
